ORSC Updates
On November 1, 2008 Mercy acquired full ownership of the ORegon Surgery Center,
a joint-venture with local physicians. The center, which opened on February 17,
2003, has grown rapidly over the past five years thanks to the support of our doctors
and the community. We now serve 7,000 to 8,000 patients annually, both for outpatient
surgical procedures and endoscopies.
To enhance patient care, the center uses PACS (picture archiving & communications
system) which allows electronic access to imaging studies. In addition, the ORSC
operating rooms include the Image Guidance Navigation System for complex sinus surgery
cases. This real-time, 3-dimensional imaging system allows for safer surgery in
the tight space of the ethmoid sinuses adjacent to the eyes.
ORSC is also participating in the community-wide effort, led by Douglas County Individual
Practice Association, Inc., (DCIPA), to have all patients’ medical record into an
electronic format called EHR (electronic health record). At present, doctors at
ORSC can access electronically your lab reports, X-ray studies, and medical record
from your primary care doctor and specialists if they have switched to an electronic
format. The advantage of EHR is coordination of care and medical information such
as allergies and medication drug list.
Mercy Medical Center is a comprehensive health care organization serving all of

the healing ministry of the Church, emphasize human dignity and social justice,
